Celtic fans can relax for the week and look ahead to Saturday’s League Cup semi-final against Aberdeen, as their team sits comfortably at the top of the league, nine points ahead of Rangers.
The Hoops secured a 2-0 victory over Dundee at Celtic Park, thanks to goals from Alistair Johnston and Arne Engels, earning three points for Brendan Rodgers.
With Rangers losing to Aberdeen last night, Celtic now holds a nine-point lead at the summit of the Scottish Premiership.
Rodgers was thrilled with the result but took a moment to commend a specific player he sees as a “real leader” on the team.
**Rodgers Lauds ‘Top Class’ Celtic Star Alistair Johnston**
Alistair Johnston has been in outstanding form this season and was named Celtic captain for the match against Motherwell.
Coming off the bench to make an immediate impact in the win over Dundee, Rodgers spoke highly of the Canadian player after the game.
In an interview with BBC Radio Scotland, Rodgers stated, “He’s a very, very important player for us. He’s got the feeling of scoring goals now, so he’s hungry and up there, but he’s top class. He’s a real leader within this team. He’s very strong defensively, physically impressive, technically sound, and has a great tactical understanding of the game. Mentally, he’s tough, and he’s been fantastic for us. It was also a good opportunity to give Tony [Ralston] some minutes, which allowed Alistair to come in and score a really good goal because he was on the move in the box and finished it well.”
