Brighton Head Coach Fabian Hurzeler shared his approach to tackling Liverpool twice in one week in an interview with *Sussex World.* Brighton host Liverpool at home tonight (Wednesday, October 30) for the Carabao Cup Fourth Round, followed by a Premier League match at Anfield on Saturday, November 2.
Reflecting on his experience of back-to-back games against the same team, Hurzeler recalled a similar situation with his former club, where he faced Düsseldorf consecutively in a cup and then a league match. “It’s not easy because you need different ideas,” he explained. “You play a game, see what works, and consider how the opponent might adapt in a short time.”
Hurzeler highlighted that preparation involves strategizing with fitness in mind and anticipating any adjustments the opponent may make. “It’s also a little bit of mind games,” he added, explaining the complexity of keeping tactics fresh for two closely scheduled games.
Despite the challenges, Hurzeler emphasized the team’s focus on winning tonight’s cup game. “We try to bring the squad on the pitch that can win because, in the end, it’s a cup game. Of course, we want to go all in and win this. After this, we’ll focus on the next game.”
