Stoke City has condemned “sickening and unacceptable” tragedy chants directed at Sheffield United striker Tyrese Campbell during their recent Championship game. These chants, coming from a small number of Stoke fans, targeted Campbell, whose father, former professional footballer Kevin Campbell, passed away in June. Tyrese Campbell, a former Stoke player with 164 appearances, scored Sheffield United’s second goal in their 2-0 win at Bramall Lane.
In a strong statement, Stoke City expressed a zero-tolerance stance on tragedy chanting, labeling the behavior as “abhorrent” and pledging immediate action against any individuals identified as responsible. The club emphasized its commitment to cooperating with clubs, police, and relevant authorities to ensure matchday environments remain safe and welcoming for everyone. They added that they will pursue measures to identify and act against those engaging in any form of illegal or abusive behavior.
This incident follows similar actions by Stoke earlier this year when two fans received three-year bans from all football grounds in England and Wales for mocking the tragic deaths of two Leeds United fans.
