Report: Fabian Hurzeler hopes Evan Ferguson will have ‘self confidence back’ after brilliant goal against Wolves….

Brighton striker Evan Ferguson made a welcome return to the scoresheet in what was a mixed afternoon for the Seagulls. After being set up by Tariq Lamptey, Ferguson’s 85th-minute goal doubled Brighton’s lead against Wolves, a moment that highlighted his attacking prowess. However, Brighton couldn’t maintain their advantage, as Wolves staged a late comeback to secure a 2-2 draw, leaving the home side to rue missed opportunities.

For Ferguson, the goal was a significant boost after enduring a challenging period. The young Republic of Ireland international had missed four months due to an ankle injury that cut his 2023/24 season short. Before that, he had struggled with injuries and a dip in form, playing through pain but finding goals hard to come by. This latest strike comes as a confidence boost, especially after a promising start to last season, when he scored on the opening day against Luton and netted a hat-trick against Newcastle shortly afterward.

Brighton’s manager, Fabian Hurzeler, emphasized the importance of Ferguson’s goal for the striker’s confidence. “Of course, it’s always helpful for the players when they score,” Hurzeler noted. “It gets their self-confidence back. I’m happy for him. For me, it’s very important how the offensive players work against the ball. We try to give him the environment where he can develop and hopefully he will use it.”

Reflecting on the match as a whole, Hurzeler found positives despite the frustrating outcome. He praised Brighton’s first-half performance, highlighting their effective play and chance creation. While Wolves applied more pressure in the second half, Hurzeler felt Brighton’s defensive work was solid until the late collapse. “In the end, you win games like this. In an ugly way,” he said, acknowledging the team’s failure to maintain their lead but hopeful that the positive aspects will serve them well moving forward.
