Don’t Be Fooled” – Sutton’s Warning to Brendan Rodgers and Celtic

Chris Sutton has cautioned Celtic against underestimating RB Leipzig ahead of their upcoming Champions League match at Celtic Park on November 5th.

Leipzig’s close losses to major teams like Atletico Madrid, Juventus, and Liverpool demonstrate their potential, and Sutton thinks their determination to stay in the competition makes them a formidable opponent when they visit Glasgow soon.

In his column for The Daily Record, Sutton highlighted Leipzig’s aggressive pressing style, which posed challenges for Liverpool during their encounter. He suggests that this high-tempo approach could disrupt Celtic’s usual expansive play, urging Brendan Rodgers to adjust tactics to avoid being overwhelmed by Leipzig’s press.

“Don’t be misled by the Germans’ lack of points. They have top talent and gave Liverpool significant trouble in the early stages of their match with their aggressive press. Arne Slot’s side managed to escape unpunished on some occasions. Rodgers will analyze that closely. Of course, playing at home means there’s pressure to attack, but while they played expansively against Slovan Bratislava, they might need to scale it back against Leipzig.

“Later, they could afford to take more risks against Brugge and Young Boys at home, while adjusting similarly for matches against Zagreb and Aston Villa away. It’s all about adapting consistently.”

Celtic’s scoreless draw in Italy has renewed their hopes of advancing. After the Dortmund match, fans were feeling discouraged, but the draw has brought back some optimism.

It’s believed that 10 points would be enough for Celtic to qualify for the knockout round. Currently on four points, Celtic is just two wins away from securing their spot in the next stage.
